Episode 12: Water Scarcity & Coastal Flooding

In the April episode of Talking Under Water, co-hosts Lauren Baltas and Bob Crossen welcome new co-host Lauren Estes. They discuss water scarcity issues related to their "Day Zero" coverage, including coastal flooding across the U.S. and the effects of PFAS on the environment. Crossen also discusses his experience at Water Week in Washington and the different hot topics covered at the event. Finally, the hosts interview Mark Piesik, director of of sales for water and public power for Itron, and pick his brain on how leak detection and non-revenue water relate to the overarching conversation on water scarcity in the industry.

Episode 11: Commercial Water

In this episode of Talking Under Water, hosts Bob Crossen and Lauren Baltas say goodbye to Amy McIntosh as she moves to another magazine within their parent company. Then the hosts talk to Scott Shipley, three-time Olympian and five-time world champion paddler, who turned his affinity for whitewater sports into an engineering career, specializing in river engineering, whitewater park design, and the design and build of community-focused river parks.

Scott Shipley is a 3-time Olympian and 5-time world champion paddler. He also is the founder and president of S2O Design, which specializes in river engineering, whitewater park design and the development of community-focused river parks. In this last episode of 2018, hosts Lauren Baltas, Amy McIntosh and Bob Crossen talk about the proposed Waters of the U.S. ruling and what it could mean for waterways across the country. They also recap their recent trip to Los Angeles where they visited the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant, Blue-White Ind., the Bolivar Park storm water project and Puroserve Water Conditioning. Finally, the interview this month is with John Foley, vice president of Puroserve Water Conditioning, who discusses how the wildfires in California are affecting water quality, his customers and his business.
